Online Amateur Astronomy Courses

Are you a beginner in amateur astronomy?  Are you trying to figure out how to set up your equipment?  Info, advice, tips and more can be found in the classes.  Classes are available for download online.

Parts I and II of the "Introduction to the Night Sky" astronomy classes

I have distilled information from this site into two of four "classes" that I developed for the Antelope Valley Astronomy Club.  These one hour classes are structured to give participants a chance to hear basic information described in better detail than they might get from reading.  It's hoped that it will be the catalyst for generating individual questions and getting them out under the night sky with a reasonable chance of finding interesting things to look at.  These files are in .pdf format for download/display.

Are you an intermediate amateur astronomy and need info on filters, astrophotography, use of star map programs, buying high end eyepieces, or where the darkest skies can be found?

bulletOnline Material:
bulletIntroduction to the Night Sky - Part III (Online Only)
bulletIntroduction to the Night Sky - Part IV (Online Only)

These classes, in four parts,  are designed to help the amateur astronomer understand more about their equipment and the night sky they want to observe.

In order to check out telescopes from the AVAC, each member must attend at least Part I of the  "Introduction to The Night Sky" class.
